Frequently Asked Questions

The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) is a municipal grant program that provides up to $15,000 per year (two intake periods) for local projects and events that benefit the Greater Napanee community. There will be $7,500 available each intake period. The fund is supported by community benefit contributions from Atura Power and will launch in September 2025.

The Atura Power Community Development Fund will stop accepting applications as of August 25, 2025. It is being replaced by the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF). Of the $100,000 that Atura Power provides to the Town on an annual basis, $75,000 will be used for municipal-wide projects and a reserve to support the CIF's longevity and the other $15,000 will be available for community organizations to apply for under the Community Initiatives Fund.

Community groups, non-profit organizations, and event organizers based in or serving Greater Napanee are eligible to apply, provided their project aligns with the CIF’s funding criteria.

Projects must align with Atura Power’s community benefit criteria and contribute to at least one of the following areas:

  • Community safety and security
  • Health and well-being
  • Environment and sustainability
  • Recreation
  • Housing
  • Arts, culture, and heritage

Applicants may request up to $7,500 per year (two intake periods) for eligible projects. The amount awarded will depend on project scope, community impact, and available funds.

The CIF will have two intake periods each year—one in the Fall and one in the Spring. The first intake period opens in September 2025

Applications will be reviewed by a new advisory committee, which will make funding recommendations to Town Council based on eligibility, alignment with criteria, and community impact.

Generally, funding is intended for community groups and organizations. Individual applicants may be considered if their proposal has clear community benefit and meets all funding criteria.

The CIF is designed to support community projects without over-relying on taxpayers. As more power-related infrastructure is completed, the fund is expected to grow, ensuring continued investment in both community initiatives and broader municipal projects.

Details, guidelines, and the application form will be available on the Town of Greater Napanee website starting in September 2025. Applications must follow the Community Initiatives Fund Policy and demonstrate alignment with the community benefit criteria.
