The Town of Greater Napanee is seeking sponsors for skating opportunities during the 2026/2027 season. Programs for all ages and abilities are available on weekdays and weekends to sponsor! Outdoor Ice Surfaces on Municipal Property Policy

The Town of Greater Napanee will consider requests by groups or organizations willing to construct and maintain outdoor ice surfaces on municipal property. Please familiarize yourself with our Outdoor Ice Surfaces on Municipal Property Policy before making a request for an outdoor ice surface. 

Please be advised that this information has been copied from its original format to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. This document is not meant to be relied on as the original copy. 

  1. Groups or organizations interested in an outdoor ice surface on municipally-owned property must make a formal request in writing to the Parks & Facilities department.
  2. Such requests shall contain a list of six names, addresses and phone numbers of contact people who will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the outdoor ice surface.
  3. Approval of a request will be based on location requested, needs assessment, funding, site inspection and timing.
  4. Upon approval of request, Council will request the Utilities department to make fire hydrants available to the public at no cost for the purpose of flooding the approved outdoor ice surface and notify the Emergency Services department of the same.
  5. Groups or organizations shall maintain the following minimum criteria at all times or risk termination of the outdoor ice surface:
    1. Maintain the ice surface and 5 metres surrounding the ice surface free of fixed barriers and obstructions;
    2. Maintain the ice at a minimum of 4 inches in depth;
    3. Not limit the usage of the ice surface in any way to the general public, save for safety or maintenance considerations; and
    4. Maintain the ice surface on a daily basis to safe standards utilizing the group's or organization's own resources
    5. Outdoor ice surfaces will be monitored for adherence to above requirements daily, Monday - Friday, by the facility operator. If the ice surface is deemed to be unsafe, it will be closed and disposed of.

Please note that skate and helmet rentals are not available at this time.


Adult Skate

Age: 18+

Time:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
  • Tuesdays from 12:30pm -1:30pm

Start Date: Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Cost: Adults - $3.00 and Seniors (55+) - $2.50

Equipment: Skates are required. No hockey sticks allowed. Helmets strongly recommended for all adults. 


Parent "N" Me

Time: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Start Date: Wednesday, September 9, 2026

Blackout Dates: September 25, October 30, November 27, January 8, January 15, and March 19

Cost: Adult - $3.00 from September to December. January to April is free and Sponsored by TD Bank Group.

 

Equipment: Skates are required. Helmets are required for children and recommended for adults. 


Pre-School Skate Program

This program offers a 20-minute lesson by a certified skating instructor and the opportunity for practice before and after class time. Participants will be grouped based on skating ability. The practice time is sectioned off for parents to supervise their child on or off the ice. Props, aids, toys, and music are used to emphasize a fun interactive atmosphere for young children. Helmets are mandatory for all children.

Time: Mondays from 8:20 am - 10:40 am

Cost: $54.00/child for a 6-week session

Fall Session: September 21 - November 2 (no lesson on October 26)

Senior Skate

Age: 55+

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • Tuesdays from 9:00 am -10:00 am

Start Date: Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Blackout Dates: September 25, October 30, November 27, January 8, January 15, and March 19

Cost: Skating times on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from September to December are free. Sponsored by L&A Senior Outreach Services.

Skating times on Tuesday and all times from January to April for Seniors (55+) - $2.50

Equipment: Skates are required and helmets are recommended for adults. No hockey sticks allowed.


Shift Workers

Age: 18+

Time: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Start Date: Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Cost: $8.00 per person

Equipment: Full hockey gear required. 


Shinny Hockey

Age: All Ages

Time: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Start Date: Wednesday, September 9, 2026

Blackout Dates: September 25, October 30, November 27, January 8, Janaury 15, and March 19

Cost: $8.00 per person

Equipment: Full hockey gear required.


Weekend Public Skating

Age: All Ages

Time: Saturdays from 1:30 pm - 2:20 pm and Sundays from 11:45 am - 12:35 pm  

Start Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026

Blackout Dates: November 28, November 29, December 26, January 9, Janaury 15, March 20, April 3, and April 10

Cost: Free – Sponsored by TD Bank Group

Equipment: Skates are required. Helmets are required for children and recommended for adults. No hockey sticks allowed.

Wheelchairs and skating aids:

  • Skating supports, chairs, sleds, strollers, and pylons are not permitted on the ice surface during public skating sessions.
  • Wheelchairs are permitted during Family and Public Skating sessions, with the accompaniment of a responsible person age 16 or older with skates on.
  • CSA approved helmets are required for wheelchair occupants over 12 months.
  • Wheels must be cleaned of sand and salt prior to entering the ice surface to ensure the safety of skaters.
  • Wheelchair users are asked to use the perimeter of the ice closest to the boards.
  • For the most positive experience, we suggest a less busy skate - Adult and Senior Skates.

PA Day & Holiday Public Skating 

Age: All Ages

Time: PA Day & Holiday Public Skates run from 1:00 pm – 1:50pm

Dates: October 12, October 26, November 20, December 21, December 22, December 23, December 28, December 29, and December 30, January 29, March 12, March 15, March 16, March 17, March 18, March 26, March 29, and April 23

Cost: Free - Sponsored by Davis & Davis  

Equipment: Skates are required. Helmets are required for children and recommended for adults. No hockey sticks allowed.
