Many of the Town of Greater Napanee's records are available to the public without making a formal request for information under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Please search our website or contact the Town to determine whether or not a formal request is necessary.

Routine Disclosure

The Town has adopted a Routine Disclosure and Active Dissemination Policy to guide its response to common records requests.

Active Dissemination records are those posted proactively to the Town’s website and Council meeting portal. Routine Disclosure covers records that may be released on request and records where a fee applies.

Freedom of Information Request

A Freedom of Information request can be used to obtain existing Town records. It does not provide answers to questions, analysis, or interpretation of records, or require the Town to create a new record. This request is appropriate when the record you need is not publicly available through other sources such as the routine disclosure process.

If a formal request is necessary, you must complete the Request for Information Form and submit it along with a $5.00 application fee to the Town. Please note that the Town is not able to accept online payments for FOI applications at this time.

As of July 1, 2026 the Town has up to 45 business days to process an FOI request in order to conduct a search for the requested information/records, and to determine if the information can be disclosed in its entirety, partially or if it must be withheld. The applicant is also responsible for the associated costs of search time, preparation for disclosure, and creation of physical copies if requested. The applicable fees are prescribed in legislation. Applicants are encouraged to ensure their request is as specific as possible in order to minimize the associated processing fees.
