New Changes to the Solid Waste By-law

Council adopted a new Solid Waste By-law on February 24 to provide updated guidance for the Town’s Waste Management System.

Here's what you need to know about curbside collection and Giveaway Days:

  • The by-law has been updated to include clearer language and updated fines
  • New rules have been added for common collection points
  • New rules have been established for Giveaway Days
Limits were also set on how much leaf and brush material can be put out to ensure Town resources are used fairly for everyone. It is not our intention to weigh and measure every pile, but the limits allow us to address locations that are clearly non-compliant.

Here's what you need to know about waste disposal sites:

  • Boats and boat motors will no longer be accepted
  • Whole hot tubs will no longer be accepted
  • Non-eligible sources (as defined in the blue box regulation) are permitted to dispose of recycling at waste disposal sites
The updated Solid Waste By-law is available on our website.

For more information on how the by-law is enforced, review our Enforcement Approach Infographic.
