Media Release - Town of Greater Napanee Celebrates Heritage Week

February 3, 2026

(GREATER NAPANEE, ON) – The Town of Greater Napanee is pleased to participate in celebrating Heritage Week from February 16-22, 2026.

Since 1974, the third Monday of every February has been identified as Heritage Day in Canada. In 1985, the Ontario government designated the third week in February as Ontario Heritage Week. This year, Heritage Week will occur from February 16 – 22, 2026.

For Heritage Week 2026, the Heritage Committee will be displaying reproduction prints depicting scenes of Napanee between the 1850’s – 1920’s; included in the collection are portrait photographs of Napanee’s early town-builders. The collection will be displayed in the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital’s Community Corridor between February 13 to April 10, 2026.

“The Town of Greater Napanee has been in existence for over 170 years and is proud to celebrate that history during Heritage Week 2026,” said Mayor Richardson. “The collection of historic portraits of Napanee proudly displayed throughout our community, not only remind us of where we have been, but will help guide us well into the future. We are extremely lucky to have such a rich past.”

The display is a visual reminder of the community’s past. The Heritage Community encourages residents to take a stroll down memory lane and visit the display. Residents visiting the building are encouraged to see how many of our historic buildings they can identify from the vintage photographs.
