2026 Municipal and School Board Election - Public Notice to Municipal Electors of Nomination Period
Are you interested in being a Council or School Board Candidate in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election?
The nomination period is open from Friday, May 1, 2026 to Thursday, August 20, 2026 during normal office hours and on Friday, August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Filing of Nominations
Nominations for the positions listed above must be made on the prescribed form available at the Town office or on the municipal website. Nominations must be filed in person along with the endorsement form signed by 25 eligible electors and the applicable filing fee. The filing fee is $200 for the office of Mayor and $100 for all other offices.
Eligibility
You are eligible to run for municipal office if you are:
- A resident of the Town of Greater Napanee, or an owner or tenant of land in the municipality, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
- A Canadian citizen;
- At least 18 years old; and
- Not legally prohibited from voting or from holding office.
A candidate must be eligible as of the day they file their nomination and must remain eligible throughout the election and, if elected, throughout the term of office.
In order to run for a school board office you must be an eligible voter for that school board.
Additional Nominations
In the event there is an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill the positions available, nominations will be reopened by the Clerk/Returning Officer, for the vacant positions only. Additional nominations would then be accepted between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Deadline for Withdrawal
The deadline for a candidate to withdraw a nomination is Friday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m. A withdrawal must be submitted in person and in writing, along with proof of identity.
Acclamation
If the number of certified candidates is equal to the number of positions available, that position will be declared to be elected by acclamation.
Election
If the number of candidates certified is greater than the number required to fill the above offices, then an election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026. Details on voting options and Advance Voting periods will be available on the website at www.greaternapanee.com/elections.
Becoming a Registered Third Party Advertiser
A third party advertiser in a municipal election or by-election is an Ontario resident, corporation, or trade union that incurs expenses relating to an advertisement in any medium that supports or opposes a candidate in an election. Individuals and entities who will conduct third party advertising in the Town of Greater Napanee must register with the Clerk before they can begin advertising by filing the prescribed forms.

Candidate Information Session – May 7, 2026
An in-person information session for potential Candidates from the municipalities within the County of Lennox & Addington is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2026 at the Stone Mills Township Council Chambers (4504 County Road 4, Centreville, ON). Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Presentation begins at 6:30 p.m.
This notice is issued in accordance with Section 32 of the Municipal Elections Act.
