Please be advised that this information has been copied from its original format to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. This document is not meant to be relied on as the original copy. Any member of the public that requires a copy of the original policy, please contact us by email or phone at 613-354-3351.
- Groups or organizations interested in an outdoor ice surface on municipally-owned property must make a formal request in writing to the Parks & Facilities department.
- Such requests shall contain a list of six names, addresses and phone numbers of contact people who will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the outdoor ice surface.
- Approval of a request will be based on location requested, needs assessment, funding, site inspection and timing.
- Upon approval of request, Council will request the Utilities department to make fire hydrants available to the public at no cost for the purpose of flooding the approved outdoor ice surface and notify the Emergency Services department of the same.
- Groups or organizations shall maintain the following minimum criteria at all times or risk termination of the outdoor ice surface:
- Maintain the ice surface and 5 metres surrounding the ice surface free of fixed barriers and obstructions;
- Maintain the ice at a minimum of 4 inches in depth;
- Not limit the usage of the ice surface in any way to the general public, save for safety or maintenance considerations; and
- Maintain the ice surface on a daily basis to safe standards utilizing the group's or organization's own resources
