The Town of Greater Napanee is prohibiting open-air fires on Town-owned municipal property to reduce the risk of fire and protect residents, property, and public spaces.
A change has been made to the Town's Public Parks and Spaces By-law and its Encampment Response Protocol to prohibit open-air fires on municipal property.
What You Need to Know:
- No open-air fires are permitted on municipal property, including parks, public open spaces, and campfire sites.
- Open-air burning elsewhere in Greater Napanee remains subject to the Town's Open Air Burning By-law and requires a valid burn permit, where applicable.
- A burn permit does not authorize a fire on municipal property.
- The prohibition includes campfires and other open-air fires used for cooking, warmth, or recreation.
Propane and Gas Barbecues:
Commercial propane or gas barbecues may be permitted in municipal parks when properly supervised and used in a safe area, as determined by the Fire Chief or designate.
Why is the Town Making this Change?
The Town has seen increased concerns related to unattended fires and combustible vegetation in public spaces. The prohibition is intended to reduce fire risk, protect public spaces, and encourage compliance through education and awareness.
Please Remember:
Open-air fires must comply with the Town's Open Air Burning By-law and permit requirements. A burn permit does not override the prohibition on fires on municipal property.
Residents and community partners are encouraged to share this information and support safe, responsible compliance with the Town's fire regulations.
In an emergency, or if there is an immediate threat to life or property, call 911.
