 Septic System Dos and Don'ts

 Do:

  • Maintain your system and pump the tank regularly
  • Repair leaky plumbing fixtures
  • Clean your effluent filter at least twice per year
  • Ensure that the tank and leaching bed have erosion control (grass)

Don't:

  • Flush cleaning wipes (dispose of in the garbage)
  • Drive over the leaching bed (or park on it)
  • Plant deep-rooted trees or shrubs in the vicinity of the system
  • Build over the tank or leaching bed with hard surfaces

New Well Installation

Be sure to use a licenced well contractor approved by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to drill and install a new well.
