Heritage Plaquing Programs

The Town of Greater Napanee has a two-stream Heritage Plaquing Program with a goal of promoting and celebrating the rich history of our community. The Heritage Committee invites heritage property owners to participate by considering one of the plaque options available.

Stream One – Designated Property Plaque Stream – seeks to provide a granite plaque at no cost to the owner for all designated heritage buildings or properties. Plaques for designated heritage properties are etched granite, describe the notable history and reason for designation, and may include historical images associated with the property. Many of these plaques were installed at local heritage sites in the 2010’s and the Heritage Committee aims to eventually have all designated properties in the community supplied with a plaque.

Owners of designated properties who are interested in this stream are encouraged to reach out to the Clerk’s office, who will refer inquiries to the Heritage Committee. 

Stream Two – Heritage Awareness Plaque Stream - designed to promote awareness of locations throughout Greater Napanee which have cultural heritage value, whether through notable architecture, past owners or occupants, important function, or other unique historical significance. Properties currently 75 years or older are eligible for this program. These plaques are made of weather resistant aluminum with a black background and silver laser-etched text.

Plaques are available for purchase from the Town, and a small number are available for sponsorship by the Heritage Committee each year.

If you’re interested in a heritage plaque for your property, please fill out our online Heritage Plaquing Program form. Hard copies of the application form are also available in person at the Town Office or by printing this form.

Under both streams, the property owner and the Heritage Committee will work together to determine the final appearance and text of the plaque. More information about the Plaquing Program is available in the Heritage Plaquing Policy.
