Town of Greater Napanee Seeking Livestock Evaluators

The Town of Greater Napanee is seeking to appoint a number of Livestock Evaluators (Valuers). 

The Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program (Program) provides financial assistance to eligible owners whose livestock or poultry has been killed as a result of wildlife predation; or if their bee colonies, beehives or beehive-related equipment have been damaged by wildlife. The Program requires the Council of every municipality to appoint a Valuer to carry out a full and impartial investigation within 72 hours of receiving the notification of the injury or death of livestock or poultry.

Qualifications: 

  • Access to a personal vehicle in order to travel to the claim site is required.
  • Preference will be given to Greater Napanee residents, ideally located in a range of community areas.
  • Previous experience with livestock and/or damage compensation considered an asset. Preference will be given to individuals with experience working with livestock.
  • Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program Investigator training will be provided by the Ministry.

Duties Include:

The Valuer will make and complete a full investigation within three days of receiving a notification from the Clerk that an application has been received. When conducting an investigation, the Valuer will,

  • Record evidence, including the taking of photographs and/or video, that is reasonably necessary to allow another person to review the evidence and make a conclusion as to whether wildlife caused the injury or death to the livestock.
  • The Valuer will complete the required report form with the owner and serve the report to the Clerk within ten business days after receiving notification. The Valuer's report will include the following information:
    • Whether the injury or death was, to the Valuer's best knowledge and belief, caused by wildlife covered under the Program;
    • Caused by a dog owned by or habitually kept on the premises of the owner of livestock or poultry; or
    • A result of the owner's failure to take reasonable care to prevent the Injury or killing of the livestock or poultry by wildlife; and
    •  The extent and amount of damage to the owner's livestock or poultry.
  • The Valuer will provide a copy of their report to the owner of the livestock or poultry and the Clerk.

Compensation and Hours: This is an on-call, as needed, contracted position. Valuers will be paid a flat rate of $100 plus mileage at the current CRA rate for calls that they attend.
