Public Notice: Proposed Amendment to By-law 2025-0048: to Establish Procedures Governing the Sale and Other Disposition of Land

Council will consider an amendment to By-law 2025-0048: To Establish Procedures Governing the Sale and Other Disposition of Land at the January 13, 2026, regular meeting. The meeting will be held in person at 124 John Street at 7:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed on the Town’s YouTube channel. 

The proposed amendment will replace Section 17 of the current by-law with the following: 

"Application of the Proceeds of Sale of Land

17. All proceeds from the disposition of land shall be applied against the Municipality's unfunded capital liability, unless otherwise directed by Council. 

Exceptions include, but are not limited to:

• Sale of lands located within Market Square, proceeds of which are to be reinvested in improvements to Town Hall and Market Square.
• Sale of lands located within the Industrial Park north of Highway 401, proceeds of which are to be reinvested in the development of the Industrial Park.
• Sale of specified lands to be used for a specified purpose (i.e. sale of parkland shall be directed to the Parkland Reserve Fund as identified in the Planning Act for use in establishing new recreation amenities inclusive of trails, replacement of aging parkland assets, etc.)"
