Public Notice - By-Election Details

September 11, 2025 

At the September 9, 2025, meeting, Council voted to fill the vacant seat for a Ward 3 Councillor through a by-election. This decision allows eligible voters in Ward 3 to elect their representative for the remainder of the current term. 

Information about the by-election will be posted to the Town website at greaternapanee.com/elections as it becomes available.

Key dates for the by-election will be as follows:

• Candidate Nominations open Wednesday, October 15
• Candidate Nominations close Friday, December 5 at 2:00 p.m.
• Advance Voting dates will be announced at a later date
• Election Day will be Monday, January 19, 2026
• The newly elected Ward Councillor will be sworn in at the regular Council meeting of Tuesday, January 27

The election will be held using internet and telephone voting.

In order to be put forward as a candidate in the by-election, an individual must be:

• A Canadian citizen;
• At least 18 years old on Election Day;
• Own or rent property in Greater Napanee (you are not required to live or own property specifically within Ward 3 boundaries); and
• Not prohibited by law from holding office
