Hometown Market
To our residents, Hometown Market attendees and local vendor community:
With the decreased number of vendor interest, sales and attendance over the last few years at the Hometown Market, Town staff have made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining Hometown Market days for 2022 and will no longer be running a Hometown Market moving forward.
The Greater Napanee Hometown Market has been operated by municipal staff on behalf of the community for many years. Staff have thought long and hard about the decision to end the Hometown Market, and it was not an easy decision to make.
It is hard for vendors to commit to a weekly Market, no matter the date/location/time, and with summer activities happening within the community, it is hard for patrons to make it out weekly to shop. COVID-19 rules and regulations have restricted the amount of produce and types of food products vendors are able to sell; these local products were a big draw at our Market, and unfortunately, we are seeing the results of not having them there.
The rise of other vendors’ markets in the area have opened opportunities for producers and resellers to attend multiple markets per week and reach new and bigger audiences. Instead of competing with these successful markets, the Town wants to support their growth and encourages vendors to make sales where they can.
The Town would like to thank all local vendors, past and present, for participating in the Hometown Market. Thank you to everyone who shopped local and supported local over these past 13 years. The community support has been greatly appreciated.
