Garbage & Recycling Information

Garbage Collection Schedule

Greater Napanee contracts with Waste Management Inc. for the collection of household and commercial solid waste.  All waste is collected either on Mondays or Tuesdays within the Town limits.  Please refer to the colour-coded map to determine which day applies for your street.  Garbage must be placed near the road no later than 7:00 am on that day.  There is a limit of three (3) bags per week for residential properties and five (5) bags per week for commercial properties. 

A bag tag must be placed on all waste containers.  Bag tags can be purchased from the Town for $1.50 per tag.  Bag tags are also available from Metro, Stop N Shop, Hart's Garage, Richmond Variety, Camden Variety, Wagar's General Store, Munroe's Variety and the County Library for an additional charge.  For more details regarding garbage collection please refer to the

Recycling collection has changed.  Now all recyclables will be collected at your location every other week (except for commercial).

Blue boxes can be purchased from the Town for $7.00/box.  Blue boxes are also available from area retail stores.

Free Large Item Drop Off

Twice a year, Greater Napanee provides a FREE large item drop off at its municipal landfill sites as well as at Waste Management's Richmond Landfill Site.  This year the dates and times for the free drop off are as follows:

The Free Large Article Drop Off does not apply to bagged household garbage, construction/building materials, tires or hazardous waste.  No commercial or contractor waste will be accepted.  Items containing freon must be tagged as freon removed.  All residents must provide proof of residency.


Leaf and Brush Pick-up

Twice a year, Greater Napanee provides FREE pick up of leaf and brush waste.  This year Fall pick-up will continue until:

  • Leaves and lawn rakings must be bagged using PAPER BAGS and placed at the curb side or edge of pavement - not behind sidewalks or in ditches.
  • Leaves and small bundles of brush, will be collected by the Public Works Department from all property in the built-up areas. 
  • Rural area residents that require leaves and small bundles of brush collected must call 354-8863 for arrangements. 
  • Tree limbs and brush shall be in short lengths no longer than 5 feet and small brush must be tied in bundles

Household Hazardous Waste Days

 

 

On occassion, Greater Napanee provides FREE drop off of Household Hazardous Waste.  This year the Household Hazardous Waste Day has been set for:

 How

  • For your own protection, deliver the hazardous waste material labeled in the trunk of your car.
  • DO NOT mix materials.
  • All materials must be clearly marked.
  • If the container is damaged, package the container in a plastic bag in order not to spill it during the journey to the collection site.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the chemicals.

What

  • paints, (flammable and toxic). Do not mix latex with oil base paints.
  • automotive batteries,(corrosive and toxic). Wear rubber gloves when handling.
  • household batteries, disposable and rechargeable (corrosive and toxic).
  • household medicines / old prescriptions, (toxic) in a separate bag.
  • waste oil, (flammable and toxic). Clearly mark the container.
  • pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, (toxic).
  • pool chemicals and bleach, (reactive and toxic). Do not mix and keep separate from each other and from other chemicals.
  • turpentine, furniture and paint stripper, varsol, solvents, gasoline, linseed oil, nail polish and nail polish remover, BBQ lighter fluids (flammable and toxic).
  • wood preservative, wood stains, anti-freeze, glues, window cleaners disinfectants, rat and mouse poisons (toxic).
  • oven cleaners, drain cleaners (corrosive).
  • old propane tanks (explosive).
  • aerosol containers (explosive, toxic and flammable). Empty containers as well.
