Canada Day in Greater Napanee

Come celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday with us at the Strathcona Paper Centre!

The Show N' Shine Car Show & Emergency Services Pancake Breakfast will kick off the event at 7:30am!

from 10;00am to 4:00pm kids activities, bouncey castles, horse drawn wagon rides, music, cake and the singing of O'Canada will all be happening.

Come back at 7:00pm and dance to DJ Digital Mikes music!

And of course we will finish the night with Fireworks at dusk!

Demo Day... Printmaking: Lino Block Demonstration

Heritage arts with a twist! It's a Demo Day at the Allan Macpherson House & Park in Napanee! On July 4th at 2pm, join artist and instructor Danielle Folkerts as she demonstrates lino-block printmaking. Printmaking is such a diverse medium, with exciting results! Whether you want to create multiple prints, mono-prints, mixed media images or cards, there are endless ways to use relief printing. The focus of this demonstration is to learn the basic steps, techniques and supplies needed for block printing right at home. Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships

THE TALL SHIPS DROP ANCHOR IN BATH, ON JULY 7, 8 & 9 Tall ships will be sailing Canadian waters to honour the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation in 2017. They are scheduled to stop at host ports in Ontario, including the village of Bath, giving thousands of people the opportunity to admire the majestic beauty of these cathedrals of the seas. Purchase your passport for this once in a lifetime event to board and tour the 8 tall ships stopping at the port of Bath, in front of the picturesque grounds of the Fairfield-Gutzeit house. Demo Day... Wool Dying

Grab your chair, there's a kitchen party at the Macphersons'! On July 12th at 7pm, Ian Bell hosts an Old Ontario Kitchen Party outside in the front gardens of the Allan Macpherson House in Napanee. Ian will highlight traditional Ontario songs and instrumental music to sing along with, tap you toes to, or maybe even dance a step or two! Songs from the lumber camps, parlours and docksides along with jigs, reels played on guitar, concertina, banjo and button accordion. Bring your own chair to sit around the front gardens at the House, light refreshments available in the kitchen. Admission is only $3 each. Dufflebag Theatre Performance: Rumplestiltskin

On July 13th at 2pm, join the 'not so famous' Dufflebag Theatre as they perform the classic tale of 'Rumplestiltskin' in the gardens of Macpherson House. When the King of Bavaria mistakenly believes that a peasant girl can somehow transform straw into gold, she is brought to the castle to perform this impossible deed. Fortunately, a strange little man appears in her hour of need and is willing to help her out. At least that’s the spin he puts on it… but the cost might be more than she expected! Demo Day... Building Tiffany Stained Glass

Heritage arts with a twist! It's a Demo Day at the Allan Macpherson House & Park in Napanee! On July 18th at 2pm, Sue Wade from Sageleaf Whimsy will demonstrate the unique “Tiffany Copper Foil” Technique. Sue will explain why Louis Tiffany (Tiffany & Co.) needed to dream up a unique method of building glass. It will include the rudiments of foiled glass design for flat and curved surfaces, pattern making, cutting glass, foiling, assembling foiled glass, different ways to solder and finish a copper foil project. Music in the Garden with Sharlene Wallace

On Wednesday, July 26th at 7pm, you're invited to attend 'Music in the Garden' at the Allan Macpherson House & Park in Napanee. Sharlene Wallace is one of Canada's most prolific and influential Celtic/lever harpists. Playing both Classical/pedal and lever harps has led Sharlene to diverse musical influences and opportunities. Sharlene tours internationally giving concerts, workshops, masterclasses and adjudications. She has performed in numerous festivals and concert series across North America and in Europe. Winner of two international competitions, Sharlene has created six independent CDs that have been inspired by her travel throughout the world. Admission is only $3 each. Demo Day... Needle Felting & Machine Knitting

Heritage arts with a twist! It's a Demo Day at the Allan Macpherson House & Park in Napanee! On July 27th at 2pm, learn about two interesting techniques. Felting is considered the oldest of all the textile or fibre arts. Come and experience this meditative and mesmerizing art form of "painting" with wool roving. Kits will be available for $25 if you would like to join in. You can also learn about Machine Knitting. This demonstration of the ‘domestic knitting machine’ is a modern version of a technique invented over 400 years ago. Carolyn Barnett invites you to sit with her to see the machine in action. Enjoy a brief talk about the history of the knitting machine’ with use of images of historical knitting. While her machine is in action, observe a different way to make wool knitted items…even just a scarf, with colours, creativity and a shorter time than by hand Admission is free!
